Joachim Westermann
One question. Is 220 to much or nobody need Watts Link or everybody have it? What is a fair price? Regards Joachim www.mog-racing.com

Joachim Westermann
About the price: In my list Caterham sell these parts for approx 350 Pound. 220 Pound is approx 40% discount for used. If I read here the prices 40% is cheap. From the Caterham Website: Rear Suspension 'Watts Linkage': On a Seven, the DeDion tube is partly located by radius arms that pivot around a point on the chassis near the front of the rear wheel arch. There are two alternative chassis positions for these arms; a higher location, which will provide a slightly better ride, and a lower location biased in favour of handling. In both cases, the radius arm pivot means that the end attached to the DeDion tube moves in an arc. Therefore, when a rear wheel goes over a bump it moves forward slightly. When the car rolls (one wheel going up, the other going down) the rear axle skews in the rear of the car (steering the rear of the car slightly). The Watts linkage consists of an additional shorter arm coming from the rear of the chassis, opposing the radius arm. Rather than attaching directly to the DeDion tube, the front and rear arms attach to a 'bellcrank', which is free to pivot on the DeDion tube. This system takes up the change in length of arms as a result of moving in an arc around their chassis attachments when the wheels move up and down, thus reducing rear wheel steer by 75%. The Watts Linkage system can be fitted to any Caterham with the mounting bushes in the chassis. These have been fitted to all models since 1998 and can be seen under the rear wheel arch behind the wheel. It is also possible to fit the additional chassis tubes and bushes required into an older car. Regards Joachim www.mog-racing.com
Gridgway
in my humble opinion Joachim, 50% of new cost is appropriate for used parts. But of course it depends on demand and there is often lots of it on BC! BTW nice vid from Dijon if that was you! Graham

Anthony
Pete To respond to your question, I had the watts linkage fixing put in when the chassis went to Arch 18 months ago. The installation is straight forward once you have a diagramme as CC did not send one. Also the dedion tube is specific to Watts Linkage and only one with the "dimples" in the tube where the watts linkage fits will work and it is really boring when it does not fit and the tube you have spent hours lovingly putting in the chassis has to come out again 😬
Peter T
So thats a no then. 😳 I cannot see my chassis going back to Arch for some time, so i'll pass on the Watts linkage then. Support the 7 Society...... Ehhh?
