Red SLR
Right. I have in my grubby paw an 82c thermostat. But where does it go. Is there any procedure for changing it? Ta. X777CAT
Roger King
It goes in the thermostat housing (this message courtesy of the departement for the statement of the bleeding obvious). However, the thermostat housing location varies tremendously, so the question has to be - what engine type do you have?
CHRIS CLARK
Simon. Think you're running a 'K' (?) The housing is on the RHS of eng.at the front. It is mounted under your TB's and the housing is black plastic. Attached to the rear of it is the 'U' bend water pipe that then attaches to the metal submarine pipe (so called 'cos it looks as if it has a conning tower) that then goes to the lower rad. takeoff. Luke Beaumont
Simon, it's quite a simple job. Drain a bit of coolant out, and disconnect the J hose. There is a single bolt holding the thermostat housing to the block - IIRC it's the dipstick tube one. Take that off and pull the housing out of the back of the water pump - the housing has an O ring that makes it a fairly stiff fit. Then you just undo the 3 bolts holding the housing together, slip the rubber ring off the old t'stat, and reverse the proceure to refit. I always slip a bit of white grease on the rubber bits to ease fitting.
