Mike Ellis
My rear fog light broke for no apparent reason last month, and now the same thing has happened to the replacement. Anyone any ideas? I know the fitting is rather flimsy but this is ridiculous. Does spilt petrol weaken it perhaps? regards Mike
Mike Bees
Is this the lens cracking around the screws and detaching itself? I 'lost' mine this way - I've got a picture of me exiting the chicane at Goodwood taken a few nano-seconds after the foglight lens gave up the ghost, it's about 6 feet away from the car in the picture. I reckon that over-tightening the screws can crack the plastic. Mike
Mike Ellis
Mike - The fitting goes from seemingly fine to dangling from the cable totally smashed for no apparent reason. The only thing I recall doing to it earlier the day it broke was to douse it in petrol accidentally. Never mind, I'll get another one, perhaps it can be fitted without taking out the tank. wink.gif Regards Mike E
CHRIS CLARK
I spoke with Andy N at Caterham HQ regarding this problem and he said that if there was a real problem with the lense on your car he'd give you a lense FOC!!!!!!!
Mike Ellis
The lens and the case were both smashed, twice. I recently spoke to Len Unwin @ CC and he said petrol would weaken the body of the unit, so it was probably that which caused it to crack and become detached, then destroying itself in the wind. Unfortunate for it to be under the filler cap! Len did promise me a new unit FOC, I'll just have to be careful filling it up in future. Pete
Sorry chaps but I don't subscribe to the 'petrol' theory. Mine broke during assembly of the kit (discovered at first washing of the beast)and I'm damn sure that I did not clobber it during construction. V7 SLR
This happened to Johnty on the JJ99 tour last year. I wondered at the time whether it was due to petrol spillage. Odd that no-one's reverse lights have suffered similarly.
Mike Ellis
The reversing light is on the near side and well away from the filler cap - you'd have to be particularly sloppy to douse that! 7[:)]
V7 SLR
Well exactly. I was simply commenting somewhat tongue in cheek about the opinion above my first post which attempted to deny that it was petrol-related...!

Mike Ellis
My last effort failed to spot the subtle irony, I won't even try this time!!! This topic must now be killed off! I'll start a new one with another little issue I had. Mike 7[:)]
