C7 GNW
My speedo is not working. I have detatched the cable from the rear of the speedo, and when I'm moving the cable spindle rotates. However, if I apply firm pressure, with my fingers, it stops rotating. What has gone wrong? Thanks
allen
Have you checked that the other end is fully home & correctly fitted to the gearbox? What gearbox is fitted (do you have a right angle drive?) Regards, allen
C7 GNW
I have no idea what gearbox I have. It is a 1998 1.8K series. I can start the spindle inside the cable turning by twisting it with my fingers, it seems as if there is not enough power to keep it turning! Thanks for your help so far. Alex Wong1697456877
Sounds like the square end of the cable has rounded itself. If you want to replace it, reassemble it now and get a new cable. Then when you have your new cable, remove only the inner wire of the old cable whilst holding the outer in place. Then thread the new wire down the old sleeve. If you're lucky, when it hits the angle drive, with a bit of fiddling, it will engage the drive and you can just connect the other end to the speedo. If you pull this off (2 out of 2 for me now), you'll save yourself from one of the fiddliest jobs that is on a par with changing the gear oil, fitting the handbrake cable to the old style handbrake or trying to get the hood on in cold and rainy weather. smile.gif Alex
