Thunderbirds

Frakes admitted in a radio interview last week that he'd never heard of the Thunderbirds TV series until he was asked to direct the new film. Not a good point I think.

Anyone remember the Thunderbirds made for cinema film from 1966 called "Thunderbirds are Go" ?

It got an extremely lavish Leicester Square premier at the time and for ALL of us at the time, it was our first opportunity to see Thunderbirds IN COLOUR.

The Adverts were enough to shatter my illusions but so far Joe 90 and Fireball XL5 remain in my happy zone from childhood.

Next Hollywood will re do Tales from the river bank will Julia Roberts as Hammy *eek*

I wish I was a space man.

The fastest guy alive.

I'd fly you round the universe,

In Fireball XL-5.

Way out in space together,

Compass of the sky,

My heart would be a fireball,

A fireball,

Everytime I gazed into your starry eyes.

We'd take the path to Jupiter,

And maybe very soon.

We'd cruise along the Milky Way,

And land upon the moon.

To our wonderland of stardust,

We'll zoom our way to Mars,

My heart would be a fireball,

A fireball,

If you would be my Venus of the stars.

Saw the film (Thunderbirds) yesterday.

The Brits saved it for me - Lady Penelope and Parker are a class act, while Ben Kingsley as The Hood was an excellent baddie.

There are a couple of nice puppet references to the original series and, on the whole, it has been sympathetic to the spirit of the TV series.

The American contingent (The Tracy family) are not well served by the script.

Every single car in the film had a Ford badge on it - how much did Ford pay for that?

So a tentative thumbs up from me, but then I did see it with an 8, a 7 and a 4 year old!

I will be surprised if they find the money for a sequel.

CAPTAIN SCARLET!!!! - now there would be a film

"this is the voice of the mysterons - we have taken over your car"

I would rather see a film scripted for a more mature audience that was watchable by younger kids than a film written for kids. All the best ones we remember from our childhoods are properly done without "twee" pretentious, unbelievable children in them...

off my soapbox now

On the other hand, looks like a good film.... I agree on the FORD rubbish - what a bunch of morons there must be over at rolls these days to have messed up an opportunity like that. Ford could still have provided thunderbird 2 or something... (imagine that with a badge on - scary)
