dnorth
Having previously run a 1700 Super Sprint as an everyday car, and got fed up with 20mpg and 3,000 mile (or 1 month!) service intervals, I am succumbing to 7 mania again. What would be the collective advice for a high annual mileage (i.e. 30 to 40,000) with reasonable mpg and not too onerous servicing? As before, I would reckon to do my own routine services, and get a specialist to do the "really" big ones (for the crossflow this was every 12,000), but don't fancy dropping sumps too often! (If I remember rightly K series need the foam filter in the sump changed every 12,000?) Is there anyone out there who has experience of high mileages who can offer some advice, or should I go the sensible route and buy an Elise??!! Many thanks! Graham Sewell
Buy a starter kit (without engine) and drop a Zetec into it. These negines are totally bullet proof (by reputation). Or a Classic with the 1800 Vauxhall engine - not quite so high tech, but should stand up to the mileage. Besides, apart from checking the valve timing, is there anything on the xflow that needs doing at 12,000 that isn't done at 3,000? Andrew Walker
I would and did go for the Zetec. Barry has done 108,000 in his 7 and he has a Zetec engine that he swears by (not at).
dnorth
Thanks very much. What are the service (oil change?) intervals on the Zetec and 8 valve Vauxhall engines? David North
