John E
Come on you seasoned 7 drivers and technical experts give me a clue as to why both of my front spax shockers have piston shafts that are out of true. the shocker casing on both the n/s and o/s has been rubbing on the spring. 1990 Supersprint with 1700 crossflow. No front end damage etc. etc. fitted with, according to the parts book with negative camber front wishbones. Lawrence_Z
How have you measured the run out? It is not unusual for the spring to rub on the damper body on the old Spax with close coiled springs. Perhaps you should try the Bilstein conversion available from Darren at the Caterham Spares 01322 559 122 Lawrence Hoy Scottish AO
Aidan Parte
The springs rub on the Spax shock absorbers on my Seven on all four corners, and they always have done in the 5 years I've had the car. The only problem is the irritating squeak that develops - this is easily cured by spraying some grease on the springs.
Al Rewas
The longer the spring the more likeley you are to have this problem. Immagine trying to compress a 2 foot long spring. Any slight variation in the parralellism (?) of the two ends of the spring will cause it to move sideways.
