Nick Woods
For the umpteenth time I have broken off the stalk on my headlamp flasher switch *mad* Its mounted on the small removable panel at the side of the scuttle so I keep catching it when getting in and out. Rather than move it, which will leave a hole, I'm wondering if I can use a horn press-button instead ? (BTW this is the flasher switch, not the main-dip switch) Nick Red and Black 1.6K supersport visit Carrotland.co.uk Edited by - Nick Woods on 25 Jun 2004 09:16:
Mike Molloy
You could use an ITW momentary pushbutton switch as commonly fitted for a "big red" starter button. These are rated for 10A so should handle the h/lamp current. About 8 quid from RS. N.B. PLEASE disconnect the battery before messing with the wiring, as the feed to the flash switch is unfused 12V. Short that to the chassis and the wire will evaporate! Not recommended...
I.Mupferit
Why not just replace the breakable plastic toggles with stronger metal jobbies 🤔 That way you just rip your trousers when you catch the switch rather than breaking anything on the car. 😬 Brent Zetec 209 Reassuringly Expensive
V7 SLR
I've already replaced my flasher with a button similar to the starter button, only in blue. Pics available if interested. Email me.
elie boone
Mike, 8 quid sounds expencive, i think i have payed mine 3 quid. The center to push is about 10mm.
Nick Woods
Mike - good point about the current loading through the switch, I hadnt thought of that 😳. I suppose I could fit a relay but thats even more fiddling around. Brent - I havent yet found a supplier of metal ones but will keep looking V7 - YHM Nick Red and Black 1.6K supersport visit Carrotland.co.uk
Irrelevant
Nick Woods: Surely there's a flasher relay anyway . ..If so, you just need to wire the switch to the relay trigger circuit and Bob's your uncle ! After a hi-vis (pocketted side) driver's door if anyone's got one?
Nick Woods
Adam, I think you might be correct - I'll dig out my wiring diagram and have a look. If there is then I guess a horn switch may be enough as it too activates a relay Nick Red and Black 1.6K supersport visit Carrotland.co.uk
Nick Woods
Hmmm. Unless I've misread the diagram, the relay is operated by the main lights on-off switch and the output from it feeds into the main-dip switch. The output from the main-dip and from the flasher are connected and feed directly to the lights, so the switch needs to handle 10A or more Nick Red and Black 1.6K supersport visit Carrotland.co.uk
I.Mupferit
Not sure where he got them but Peter Griffiths (he of the black & gold 7) replaced all his toggles with metal levered ones. Brent Zetec 209 Reassuringly Expensive

V7 SLR
Nick, YHM back. Button just replaces the switch. Doesn't need any more relays.
