keith d
I am considering getting a new stainless steel exhaust made for my BDR with larger primaries and with a bigger silencer. Does anyone have any recomendations (good and bad) for people who may be able to take this on. Thanks Keith
Gary Furst
The exhaust silencer you can buy direct from Techcraft in Warwick Phone 01926 410098. The silencers come in a variety of sizes and are repackable. The 2.25" primaries for my X-flow were made by, I think, K B Developments in Brackley (it was a few years ago). I left the car with them and picked it up from them at the time they said, and have not had any problems with the system over the last 5'ish years. Mike Bees
2.25" primaries!!! That should be good for around 400bhp. I'd be seriously surprised if your low/mid-range wasn't compromised by having such large primaries. The primary lengths will need to be very long to work with such a large diameter. keith d
Mike - Surely Gary must mean 2.25 inch downstream of the collector Standard Caterham BDR primaries are 1.625 inch but I'm after 1.875 inch x 27 inch primaries in line with Cosworths recomendations. My engine ran out of steam at just over 200 bhp and 7300 rpm on Roger Kings rolling road. Seems the standard exhaust is just too small. Already decided on Techcraft silencer but I need someone who can fabricate the whole thing and do a quality job at a half reasonable cost. I would be most grateful for any leads. Paul Ranson
BTB Exhausts at Daventry (01327 261797) have a good reputation but may be expensive. Perhaps TechCraft would suggest a fabricator, especially if you know roughly what configuration and sizes you want. Paul
Super_Rich_Bernie
You could try 'Mike the Pipe' at Wallington in Surrey for a quote. Jonathan
Eugene
you could try The 7 Workshop (www.7workshop.com) as I know they have had systems fabricated in the past to work with unusual setups (see their new ad in low flying, previewed on their website). Peter Carmichael
I used "Exhaust By Design" near Milton Keynes. Ex-BTB 2 man band, I believe, and very cost effective. Lucky you, having a Cosworth spec to work to. Might be worth considering that Mike Bees was getting ~240 bhp out of a k-series on 1.625in primaries of a standard caterham competition exhaust (IIRC), so the exhaust might not necessarily be holding back the power that much. Mike Bees
I'd be very interested to know what the effect of the new exhaust is when it's done Keith. Mike
mark.hall
I didn't think Mike the Pipe worked with stainless.........
Graham Perry
SES or Specialised exaust services as they are known, at Croydon have done two systems for me. Both were a work of art, with really high quality welding. From what I remember they only do Racecars and one offs. I think the primaries and collector on my Cross flow came to about GBP 550 at the time. Sorry, don't have their number to hand
I reply to every thread
I heard that Mike the Pipe had jacked it in through ill heath. Powerspeed near Ashford, Kent are worth trying.
Gary Furst
I looked through my old receipts and found that it was GDS Exhausts that made my system. Their details are G.D.S Exhausts 8c, Boundary Rd Buckingham Rd Ind Est Brackley Northamptonshire NN13 7ES Business Type: EXHAUST SYSTEM MFRS & WH'SALERS Tel: 01280 702510
