YellowSeven
Has anyone fitted Caterham's silicone hose set to a wet sumped K series? Did you suffer any problems from leaks? Did you add any sealant to the hose just to help the seal? Or just push on and jubilee clip? Any advise welcome
John Howe
You will need to do the clips up much tighter than you do with rubber hoses as the material is harder. JH Deliveries by Saffron, the yellow 222bhp Sausage delivery machine
PaulD
If you look at pictures of silicone hoses on racing cars (F1 for example) they don't use the flat Jubilee type clamps, but use the type that has two round wires (look inside your washing macine if your'e not sure of the type). The load will be more concentrated under the wires than the flat strip. Paul
Tony C
Mine don't leak with jubilee clips. I just slid them on and did-up the clips - check tightening at each 6000 mile check 😬 BRG Brooklands SV 😬 It seems that perfection is achieved not when there is nothing more to add, but when there is nothing more to take away. YellowSeven
Do you mean the Mikalor style clip? I was thinking of using a 'Mikalor' or a 'ABA Spring Clip' has anybody used either?
PaulD
I mean SAE "Type A". here they work better with silicone hose than the metal band type. Paul
ECR
Mikalor (although PaulD's wire ones look good also. I find the main advantage with silicone coolant hoses is that they don't age harden and take on a "set" like the rubber/fabric ones do and so reseal very easily after any maintenance work. prs
Several yrs ago I replaced all the hoses on my road going Cosworth and the specialist I got the silicone hoses from told me to smear a small amount of vaseline onto the metal or cast fittings before pushing the hoses on (silicone is not so forgiving as rubber on pitted surfaces and weepage can occur). I followed his advice and have never experienced any problems and I run quite a high output 300bhp unit so the system is well used!! I replaced all my hoses this winter on the caterham after re-building the engine and again smeared with vaseline and so far no probs. A good quality stainless hose clip is necessary and don't use the cheap jubilee ones that have the ribbing going through to the inside as they will cut into the hose in time. And to clean just wipe over with soapy water but don't tell the missus it's her sink bowl 😬 Phil S7SVN
Normans_Ghost
Word of warning, overtightening hose clips can cut into the hose or cause hose to twist on pipe it's fitted to. vaseline will help seal but do not overtighten hose clip. norman verona 1989 BDR 220bhp Mem No 2166 Curmudgeon in an Elise, (and 7 and Elan)
Mark Durrant
I had on hose that would never seal so in desparation I used a little sealant used by plumbers and it has not leaked since Mark D Su77on Se7ens

Mark Durrant
Oz7 Sorry I cannot remember the name and I do not have any left. If I get a chance to pop into the local plumbers merchants in the next day or so I'll get another tube and let you know.
