SV driveshaft failure

Dave Townley's n/a cossy powered SV broke a driveshaft at Santa Pod recently whilst only using road tyres. I understand that this is the first such failure for an SV shaft and as such Caterham Cars replaced the shaft foc Fortunately the failure happened at the start of a run resulting in no damage to the car or driver. The break was a clean one at the wheel end.

 

In light of this I wondered whether the SV shafts are the same design as standard De Dion shafts (albeit longer I presume) ? If the shafts are longer then I wondered if standard Sierra Cosworth (turbo) shafts were a direct replacement (as no n/a engine in a Caterham would break these) ?

I think early on they changed the design of the drive shaft, as Miraz had problems with his original ones?

 

Mine have been fine...

My problems were limited to the joints on the shafts - not the shafts themselves
