allegro
Lots of products out there so which one would suit my motor question.gif Comma or Mobil 1. Has anybody any advise. Mobil 1 apparently reduces engine noise slightly. Is this nonsense question.gif Andy Mac
Peter Carmichael
Any noise related consideration sounds like nonsense. The starting point is viscosity. For an SLR in the UK's climate you need a ~40 rated oil for hot running and a good low W (0,5 or 10) number for protection from cold. Mobil One gives you this with 0W40. Mobil One is a premium brand, with lots of users reporting no problem. It is not necessarily inherently better than Comma. The appropriate grade of Comma will be fine also. Oil is only a problem when you hear a lot of people reporting otherwise inexplicable bearing failures at 8000rpm and the brand of oil is the common factor. R500s, for instance are recommended to run Mobil One Motorsport 15W50, but they need careful warming up and have different bearings which are possibly a slightly bigger clearance on the big ends. Mobil One Motorsport (15W50) on an SLR would actually be a worse choice of oil in a UK climate than Mobil One ordinaire (0W40).
