Al Crickmore
Chaps. Of you Xflow owners out there, more specifically 1700 Xflows I guess, I have to ask this. How often would you get the car serviced if the limit of your mechanical ability consists of checking oil and coolant levels? Do you treat it to a 500mile every few weeks or can you let it go longer, say a thousand miles, two? Obviously if you want to take best care you will go for the former. But I am having and will always have difficulty getting the car serviced regularly due to work commitments. This poses me with a crisis of conscience. Do I break my back to get it serviced constantly in order to sleep soundly at night? Also. Has anyone had work done by Steve Parker (ad in Low Flying) . Is he any good?? 1700 Super Sprint smile.gif oops....there goes another hat teeth.gif
John Whyman
I find keeping my 1700 ss is like painting the Forth Bridge, there is always something to keep you amused at the weekends or whenever.( I never use a garage, I don't have any specialists near me, and I don't trust them.) I always check on my fluid levels and braking parts (disc pads and fluid), at least once a week and give it a thorough going over once a month, checking tappet clearances, timing, changing oil and filter if necessary, checking all bolts are tight etc. It may sound like an onerous task, but believe me you will get huge enjoyment out of understanding your own car, and a lot more competent at solving the problems that pop up. chris a
Al, Steve parker is very good. He built my x-flow prior to my ownership and I took it back to hime for a first service, very helpful and very knowledgeable. Due to distance haven't taken it back since but he is happy to talk on the phone about all matters
Graham Sewell
I check all fluids before each major journey (i.e. anything that isn't less than 10 miles) - mainly because I have a weeping radiator. Other than that, a major service every spring which takes a couple of leisurely afternoons. Beyond that, if it ain't broke.... Cheers, Graham
