fool on the hill
I have bought an 1800ss from caterham. it is a year old and has done 10,000 miles. mainly track use but being driven by potential new punters rather than flat out all the time. They kindly carried out a 12000 mile service before i got the car (which also starred in the infamous "driven" programme). any advice as to when i should change the cambelt or any other safety critical checks I need to make before my first track day at donington in two weeks?? James If it ain't broke, maybe it's time I had a look at it...
Dave H
From my experience with the Rover K, the cambelt should last for over 50,000 miles - but if it breaks its expensive, so if you are unsure about it in any way at all, then change it now. Tony Martyr
'Having a look' won't tell you much. 12000 miles is very early to change a cam belt. I will do mine at 25000 miles with is 5 years after build.
CHRIS CLARK
Did mine just after I bought it (38,000)to be on the safe side. Mine is a 1400 SS with change light at 7,400. Think 30,000 miles is reasonable. Rover say 48,000 (in my Haynes 'book'; OK,the relevant bits photocopied from a library borrowed copy!!!). Car was eight years old.
