stevefoster
My local friendly motor factor chap can get Castrol RS fully synth 10-60 for £32 for 4l. Anybody used it in a hydraulic tappet VX or similar. I was thinking of something a bit thicker than Mobil 1 (=water) in the summer heat for track work. I have used Comma SynerG to good effect but you know... always looking for a new thing. John Richens
Steve, I have just changed to Shell Ultra Helix racing oil 10w60 for my R500 as an experiment over the 15w50 Mobil Motorsport...the car is used mainly on track days so I will have to wait to see if there is any difference until after June 5th at Snetterton....by buying direct form Shell in a 20 litre drum it works out to be about £6.25 a litre...will let you know if it performs any different. Slipper man
Minister recommend Mobil 1 motorsport 15w 50, or Shell helix 15w 60. Apparently the Comma oils are too thin for track work. Don't know Castrol oils myself.
CHRIS CLARK
That info. on "Comma" oils being too thin can't please the ad. men too much when the blue R500 is adorned in their stickers!!! PS. There is a certain Comma 'girl'(?) that under no circumstances can be described as 'Too thin' !!!!!!
John Richens
Keith, Shell no longer make 15w60 it's been replaced by 10w60 ...the same oil used by Ferrari...your name is not down for June 5th!
DonkeyDave
John - have you a contact number for Shell direct? Can't seem to get much joy out of their website. Ta
Slipper man
Can't do it I'm afraid John. I have to work for a living! Bummer! Still, I've got a Spa pass... PS - funny thing is happening at the moment. I am beginning to get tuned in to my R500. I am really getting to like it (3rd place in class at Curborough helped too)
