Nemesis
why can't you fit ABS to a Caterham? Weight! Size! Serious question!
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted June 21, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted June 21, 2004 Some years back BMW introduced ABS on their cars competing in the touring car championship - with BMW being the only manufacturer with ABS fitted (competing that is) at the time, it was noticeable how much deeper they could push into the bends before breaking - possibly half the distance needed. If you believe that you can cadence break on a comparable level to a computer controlled ABS system, you are possibly mis-guided - please don't be the car following me when you try to prove it. ABS systems differ greatly - we have a BMW 5 and a Freelander - guess which system's amazing and guess which one leaves quite a bit to be desired ❗ Additionally, many bikes are now fitted with ABS - it's a case of having a rotation sensor and a pressure release, all controlled by the correct piece of computer wizardry. There are no space constraints in the Caterham that would prohibit the fitting of ABS, it's purely a cost issue with the system needing to be "bought in". Once ABS is fitted, it's only a short stem to a full traction control system also 😬 Stu.
