Myles
I've just changed my coolant, thermostat etc. etc. for the first time (on any vehicle) and had been expecting the infamous airlocks... ...but AFAIK, I haven't had any... Engine comes up to temp, thermostat opens, engine stays at temp... The expansion tank did fill up right to the top at one point, but after bleeding, it seems to be behaving... So what are the symptoms of an airlock - isn't it that the temp gauge will (for instance) rocket up and down? I'm just about to pop out to the next town for a quick test run..., but I'd like to know what I'm missing IYSWIM... Keep BC free and open for ALL. shn7
Myles, IIRC you have an ex-academy car, so presumably no heater. I think the airlock problem is usually associated with the heater. So don't worry all sound ok. If I'm wrong then I'll be corrected very soon I expect. Steve.
Myles
Well, it works just fine (and yes, I am driving an ex-academy)- but I'd still like to hear what airlock symptoms are all about in case I meet them in the future... TomB
Well Ive never had one either, a 1.4k with a heater. Maybe Im either a) lucky, or b) blissfully ignorant & Ive had one & not known!
shn7
I think the symptoms are usualy oddly fluctuating temperature readings or not reading at all but couldn't be sure as I've never had the problem either. But then all 3 of my sevens have been heater'less Steve.
Mick Day
Before I removed my heater I used to change the coolant with the heater valve closed. I reckoned it prevented air getting into the heater matrix etc. No air-locks. I've now removed the heater (7kg dry!) & still no air-locks.
