Vaporizing fuel

Mike Varnals

Recommended Posts

I have a Super Sprint with a crossflow engine and twin Weber carbs.

I am sure that after a half hour of driving on a hot day that the fuel is vaprozing in the fuel line near the engine before it can get to the carbs. Result is that when I put foot down the car splutters and loses power. It can only cope with gentle acceleration. Anyone know about solutions with heat shields or is it possible someting else is causing the problem. Only seems to happen in hot weather.

Ideas welcomed.

Mike,

Fuel vaporisation is not normally a big problem with Crossflows, even under full race conditions.

Are you sure that you don't have a fuel line too near the exhaust?

I think that it is more likely that you have a carburettion problem, or possibly ignition. It would be a good idea to go through the set up (float levels, balance, jetting, presence of debris etc).

We have also seen ignition problems that get worse with heat.
