Luke Beaumont Posted April 21, 2004 Share Posted April 21, 2004 Place something flat on the back of the wheel rim (make sure to rest on the rim edges rather than the tyre) and measure the distance down to the hub mounting face. This is known as backspace, and is sometimes used to quote offset but isn't as common parlance as ET (Einpresstiefe) notation. To determine this, measure the overall rim width, divide this figure by two, and subtract from the backspace. So for example if we say that your rims have a backspace of 130mm, and an overall width of 190mm (aka 7.5 inches - rims are usually around an inch wider than the tyre seat width). 130-(190/2)=ET35 Having said all that, I thought it was common practise for cast alu wheels to have the dimensions cast into the spokes somewhere.
