Weber alpha ign working now!

Called Webcon and got good help from Peter White.

They confirmed the coil pack is right but couldn't find my number for the crank sensor.

I eventually got through to James (he is having a busy time of it). He said they just plug in and go...no messing about.

Then he called me back saying he had found a new ECU the same as my wasted spark system needs when he had asked Webcon for dizzy one!

Got up to James in a jiff. Plugged the new ECU in swapped the ign coil and crank sensor cables over Vroom!!!...Started first time! F'ing hell!

We set up the throttle pot and James tweeked the carbs...

The throttle pot was set ala instructions...

Off I set after a jaw with James and boy did it pull low down. First sign of a hard throttle depression and massive pinking.. Not what you want!

Returned to James and reset the Thottle pot on a less aggressive setting...

James said disconnect the throttle pot if you get pinking and it will revert to 2d mapping.

James then shut up for the night.

Still pinked a bit but not as badly. Was on tender hooks on the motorway at every rattle.

Imagined my exhaust rattle was pinking and pulled disconnected the throttle pot for the rest of the journey home...

So half happy. More fiddling tonight / tommorrow to see if I can sort it.

Whilst I was using the 3D version of the map it was clear that

cruisng on the motorway would be VERY much more economical now.

Hardly any throttle application for the same engine output.

Went up to Webcon tonight. Peter White and helper remapped

my unit for a map for a Formula VX race engine. This has slightly less agressive advance low down compared to the standard map.

Worked a treat.

So my engine supplied by Caterham in 1997 presumably has a higher compression ratio than standard??????

That was Peter explanation!

Off to Haggis with ecomomy and performance now!
