New Barbie
I use Treble B, Caterham. They charge me £3.95 per wheel for removing and fitting new tyre and balancing. shrewdcookie - my Caterham site - UPDATED !
Drumster
Try Dartford Tyres 01322 274498. They do all of Caterham's tyres etc (I believe) and therefore are used to dealing with alloy wheels. Steve Robinson
ATS wanted £5.00 per wheel to do mine, but as it happens the boss wasn't in when I took them back so they did all for £5 cash in pocket 😬 Therefore wherever you go find out who the boss is and wait for him to go to lunch Steve
Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 18, 2004 Support Team Share Posted March 18, 2004 £5 per wheel is still a good deal. I got charged £15 per wheel by Hi-Q and they were the only company in Slough that would do it - the others would only fit tyres that they had supplied. Support Team Shaun_E Posted March 18, 2004 Support Team Share Posted March 18, 2004 That's what I thought but I was in a hurry and as I said no-one else would do it ☹️. I'll know better for next time (probably in about 2 weeks!) and will find somewhere that will supply and fit. I have the name of a place in Bracknell that should do that for me. Alternatively I will use the BaT Buy-a-tyre service at the Anglesey track day but only if my current 21's survive Llandow! If anyone knows of a place in Berks/Bucks that will supply and fit or fit for a reasonable price then please let me know. MJB
I used Tyre Trax off of Portland Rd South Norwood. Ferndale road i think. They appreciate nice cars, and will take care with your rims etc and were recommended to me before i used them. Specialist Merc Dealer in Croydon uses them for all their cars. did mine for £30 cash - worth it for the fact my rims were not scratched and they added weights to inside of rim not the polished outer. Irrelevant
Shaun_E: KwikFit in Staines (near the big Halfords) have done mine before, they moan a bit but do it for cash. Kwikfit in Slough have done some for me as well. Slough used to be littered with part worn places who would do it cheap but they all seem to have closed. Remember, many brand name places will say they don't do it if you phone. You have to go in person and make it obvious it's for cash. The few places that do officially do tyre swaps do tend to cost a lot more than an unofficial 'cash' job. Any more than £5 a wheel, (tyre a off, tyre b on, new valve and fully balanced with correct type weights), and they're having a laugh! £15 for 4 is more like it. Richard J Darnell
I have just been charge £10 a wheel - I realised this was too much but didn't have time on my side It is better to go with a recommendation - I made the mistake of first trying to use Kwikfit as they were going to charge less. The guy was friendly/helpful but the machine he was using was a "bit crap" (his words) and he advised me to go elsewhere after spoiling one of my rims trying to get the old tyre off. Beelzebub
I always use one of these places who do tyres, exhausts, & batteries. Won't name them on here. But you cant get better than a....................you know who I'm on about. Anyhow I tell them what I need, they call it a "changeover" I take my own tyres along from Polleys, offer the cash up front. Usually ten quid & half an hour later you get back four balanced wheels with new valves. Everybody's happy. I've never had a wheel damaged or scratched yet. Only thing I'd say is to make sure that they use the stick on type balancing weights & not the hammer on variety. If they won't do a cash job I'd try another depot, but to date they've never refused. 😬
Graham Perry
I had 20 various wheels and tyres removed from rims and put back on again the other day at a small garage in Essex for about GBP 25 ! I must get a tyre changer. Its on my list for later in the year.
