Petrolhead
How does this compare to Std Bar, ie is it much heavier. Is there anywhere that i can see a cose up of a R500 roll bar to get an idea I'm back
drB
not sure how the weight compares to a standard bar - probably a bit heavier i would assume, but the bar has a much larger diameter than the standard one, looks much nicer and would offer some protection should the worst happen (unlike the standard one) you can kinda see it in one of my piccies here : http://members.madasafish.com/~adbett/the_answer.htm but there should be some better ones on the caterham website? there're often some R500's in the pre-owned car section.... if want a better photo, let me know and I should be able to get one tomorrow for you ouch! KenEvans
According to my bathroom scale it weighs 4.2kg. The main hoop is about 45mm diameter and has quite a robust and meaner look about it than the standard one. Ken
Petrolhead
Difficult to tell on the photo, looks like the std bar I'm back
KenEvans
Oh alright then - £75+p+p (or halfway meet) for this immaculate R500 thick roll bar. It looks like the one shown on this well known picture here (with apologies to the owners of the French website I've linked to!) Ken
Petrolhead
So will this fit all later cars then? Is the main hoop the same diameter as the FIA and is the height the same as the FIA or the STD bar or what is it? I'm back
KenEvans
It came off my 2002 Superlight R so it is reasonable to assume that it will fit all later cars. The main hoop is actually thicker than the FIA bar by about 5 to 8mm. When installed it sits approx 50mm lower than the FIA bar which of course will improve aerodynamics and give the car a lower, meaner appearance I'd say it's an excellent compromise between the spindly standard bar and the aesthetically disastrous FIA bar. Petrolhead
Sorry, questions, questions Did you have to mode your boot cover? Are the rear steady bars the same thickness as the FIA. The question are probable doing you head in but I am actually thinking of using insted of an FIA Bar coz I agree that they are bloody ugly and look too high.
