Emissions, in USA

Roland,

The fact that it is considered a Kit car in the USA means that it is exempt from things like bumber and air bag regulations. As to emissions, you can go to the website of the state you are going to and look up the emissions regulations and see if you will pass. Most states have a website that is just the state name.gov .

(as USA organiser i've learned all kinds of things)

you will be hit with two import duties, one for a landing charge $ 100 and one for an "engine chage" $ 50. you can't escapt these. were you to import a K, it doesn't meet several states' emissions (NY, CA, can't recall the other) so you can't keep it there forever!

you need to join the AA so you have reciprocal rights in the USA with the AAA for assistance and recovery. you don't need a greed card, although you should carry one. liability is the mininum insurance you should carry as cover FYI.

your shipping company can "bundle" them into the charge. there's different permits for what you might be doing.

for us on USA 2005, we have a 1 month permit that allows the cars to not be inspected in any way, they are for an "event" and are on "show" as they move around. we are exempt for one of the charges, but you get hit for the other.

the bigger issue is the US docks are unionized. joe random driver will be driving your car if you RO/RO (roll on roll off) which is why we are containerizing our cars. no one will touch them except us at loading and unloading.

you might try shippers2000.com which is where our best quote and most friendly service has come from.

contact me off list if you need more information.
