NickB7
I have a new superlight. in the first 300 miles the gearbox was really noisy in 4th gear - a whining sound especially on the overrun. Caterham agreed to change under warranty but the new one is just the same, maybe a tiny bit quieter - are they all that bad, i have tried one other 6 speed car and it seemed fine. Any ideas or is it time to contact caterham again? S31VEN
Peter Carmichael
This is pretty much standard issue. I wouldn't bother with any more changes.
NickB7
What causes the noise - does the noise mean it is wearing out quickly or is it OK? Why is it only 4th gear? I'm glad it is not only me that has the problem in one sense S31VEN
CHRIS CLARK
A call to 'Gearbox Ace' Phil Stewart (Road & Race transmissions) may help. For a reasonable amount he may well give the car a shakedown and give you the details!!!!!
amosian
Nick, My car has done 6,000 miles though I've only had it for 500 or so. I can't say that I have noticed any noise from any gear so it may be worth contacting Caterham again. I have found that 3rd to 2nd can sometimes be a bit stubborn though (especially with passenger?). CHRIS CLARK
Amosian. Is your passenger that fat that he/she 'spills' over onto the shift ?!!!!
FH
No, it's that quick flick of the wrist on the 3 to 2 - gives them a thump in the chest every time wink.gif FH Edited by - fullharness on 3 May 2001 22:00:
