John Whyman
My de-dion 1700XF with 28,000 miles and in standard road trim has a squeaky rear end. The problem seems to be the springs on the bilsteins, which although work perfectly have developed this nasty compression squeak. Sort of metallic grating. If I clean them they look fine, and if I squirt the outside with a bit of lube (WD40) the squeak stops for a bit. Can't see any obvious body contact either. Anyone else had this?. Are my suspenders needing to be changed, does anyone know a curequestion.gif before I go madmad.gif Happy (squeakless) motoring C7 WJW. Graham Sewell
It is not unusual for the springs to bend slightly and then scrape against the damper housing - often this is more common on front springs. Other than applying grease to the outside of the damper (inside of the spring) there is not a lot that can be done. Cheers, Graham
John E
I have a similar problem with my rear Spax shockers. I spray with wd40 and yes it goes away. I suspect though that its the rubber bushes causing the noise.
CHRIS CLARK
I have had this problem too and used a can of "Holts" rubber and nylon lubricant. Not sure if it's still available (bought it for use a few years back to deal with MGB GT leaf spring squeak). Works well!
