tony pashley
Talking of Pink Floyd (well, somebody was)... I have it on good authority that if you play the film "The Wizard of Oz" and start playing "Dark Side of the Moon" when the MGM Lion roars (using the latter as the soundtrack to the former) you gain a wholly new perspective on both works... Mrs Mav
Tony you are so full of trivia you should certainly spend more time down in the sheds Strange fact you have offer to the shed all the same but you are welcome to come again 😬 Viv it is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt. not a Postman Pat
i grew up down the street with stevie ray vaughan, i've got a lot of rare stuff of him performing Steve, can I have your babies 😳 😳 alternatively, your address so I can come round and nick your SRV stuff. I was fated never to see SRV live - I had tickets to a concert in Dublin which was cancelled when the drugs took hold, I then bought tickets to see him in London, which never happened because of the crash ☹️ ☹️ ☹️ In my CD player at the moment: Desert Sessions 9 and 10 Yeah Yeah Yeahs Detroit Cobras White Stripes Sigur Ros Alabama 3 John Cale Television Creatures PIL Louisiana Red Pat and his not quite black and white cat
Debert
The The - Just got the remastered early albums - I love "Burning Blue Soul" Tears For Fears - Roland's still going, Curt's still crashing AC's in the states Cocteau Twins - All that era of 4AD artists really, but the Twins 'specially Chilli Peppers - Everything, they can't be beaten Jane's Addiction - Porno for Pyro's is just excellent, their version of "sympathy" does me in Stone Roses - 12" singles compilation Billy Bragg - Still young and angry, even if we know he's old and middle class now The "best of " Rough Trade compilation box set, all the stuff i couldn;t afford when i was studeing, the Pixies still sound fresh, forget your White Stripes kids Still on shopping list: The Coral, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Snow Patrol I'm out of my mind, but feel free to leave a message See Barbarella here... Tony Whitley
No one's mentioned Beefheart so far. Surely I can't be the only one I was fated never to see SRV live - I had tickets to a concert in Dublin which was cancelled when the drugs took hold, I then bought tickets to see him in London, which never happened because of the crash naPP: are you clean now 🤔 and was the car repaired OK 🤔 M1 7 SMW R200 (aka 1.4SS) Mem.No. 10376
Debert
I seem to enjoy Beefheart more when it's surprisingly sprung, like the occasional blast from Peely, or hearing it on a friends stereo. Badger Bill
Fletch, The The, I thought it was only me. They aren't on the old wireless, but I have got a load on tape! And I can't fault the Stone Roses. Happy Mondays were a fave for a while, but I threw those clothes out along with my youth 😬 BB
Steve-B
tony -- surely you mean Captain Beefheart, as in Frank Zappa, a quality entertainer 😬 NaPP i saw the concert just before SRV died several days later. With BB King. a 4 hour jam just the two of them. shivers still run down my spine to this VERY DAY of that concert.... 😳 😬 Steve B Big Black Beast^3 SV VHPD
not a Postman Pat
Ah, Captain Beefheart - I remember being allowed to stay up late to watch the Old Grey Whistle Test when I was a kid/young teenager, and seeing an incredible performance by Captain Beefheart. Of course I could never remember the name of the song, but always hoped that some day I would come across it. Imagine my delight when it turned up on the Old Grey Whistle Test DVD last year 😬 😬 Upon the My-Oh-My, quite outstanding (even has a difficult-to-recognise Ry Cooded doing spooky things on guitar ) *cool* I still have my tickets for the SRV concert that never was, I couldn't bring myself to give them back for a refund ☹️ Steve, it sounds like you don't need it, but I have lots of SRV on CD and vinyl (including the box set and some bootleg vinyl), if you ever want copies let me know. Tony, after I read what I'd posted, I wondered if anyone would pick up on the drugs bit 😬 Pat and his not quite black and white cat

Meldrew
Fast go fast.....slow go slow. I also saw that Whistle Test performance, Pat, and it's pure weird Beefheart magic. Tell me, good captain, how does it feel when you're driven away from your own steering wheel? 😬 I'm not allowed to put Beefheart or FZ on unless Mrs M is out of earshot. And clearly, the kids have to be somewhere else too (certainly for the latter). I am allowed to put on Abba's greatest hits in the family car though. And it's fab. 😬 Edited by - Meldrew on 27 Feb 2004 08:11:
