I HAVE USED THE MOTORAIL SERVICE BUT NOT IN A SEVEN. CHECK WITH MOTORAIL FIRST BECAUSE I THINK THERE IS A GROUND CLEARANCE LIMIT AND ALSO A HEIGHT LIMIT (NOT A SEVEN PROBLEM) IF YOU DO TAKE THE SEVEN, INSIST ON LOADING & UNLOADING THE CAR YOURSELF RATHER THAN LEAVE IT TO THE FRENCH STUDENTS THAT THEY NORMALLY EMPLOY. SNCF DON'T LIKE THIS BUT I HAVE SEEN AN ASTON MARTIN DB4 & A JAG E TYPE LOADED BY OWNERS. ALSO MAKE CERTAIN THAT THE DAMAGE CHART IS FILLED IN CORRECTLY BEFORE BOARDING AND CHECK AGAIN WITH FINE TOOTH COMB AFTER YOU ARRIVE AT AVIGNON. SNCF WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY CLAIM FOR DAMAGE AFTER YOU HAVE LEFT THE STATION. I HAD AN ALLOY WHEEL DAMAGED AND A TYRE BUT FAILED TO SPOT IT BEFORE LEAVING THE STATION. I MANAGED TO CLAIM ON THE RETURN JOURNEY (COST £200). I WAS ONE OF FOUR DRIVERS CLAIMING FOR DAMAGE TO VEHICLES IN TRANSIT - MAINLY CHAFING BODYWORK. THE WHEELS ARE CLAMPED TO THE TRANSPORTER DECK SO MAKE CERTAIN THE CLAMP IS NOT GOING TO CHEW THE BODYWORK DURING THE 600 MILES JOURNEY. BON VOYAGE

I'm also off to Italy this summer and also looked into the Motorail service to Nice. I recieved a brochure which states that they will not accept any car with less than 4 inches ground clearance and also any convertible/classic/specialist car owner will have to sign away any right to compensation should the car be damaged. I decided to drive in the end going via Geneva thro Switzerland, basically to save any potential problems that could occur, stuffing up the holiday in the process. You could try giving them a call to see what you think.
