Richard Gibson
I have a 85 Long Cockpit basic 1600 crossflow sprint engine with the one piece 4 speed transmission. In the process of switching motors, I have noticed that the input shaft has some side to side movement. not much, but certainly not tight. I have never had any problems in anyway with this transmission which has 15K mils on it. Is ther anything to worry about? Thanks, Richard
stevefoster
Absolutely nothing to worry about if it is on a little play in that you can wiggle it. The shaft in ball race bearing in the gearbox is moving around a bit thats all. The other end (spigot bearing) sorts all this out once located... Graham Perry
As long as the end of the input shaft is still round and not oval you don't have a problem.
