R500 For SAle

Recommended Posts

My R500 is for sale as my JP1 is due to arriveon Saturday. The car is Kingfisher Blue with a McClaren orange stripe round the front of the nosecone.

The car is set up for Racing/trackdays but is still fully road legal (currently on SORN). It is chassis number 9 and was built in Mrch 2001.

It has done 6140 miles and it has only done 500 miles since I had the gearbox and axle uprated by R&R Transmissions and Minister "refreshed"

the engine,- May 2002.

All receipts are available and the car is currently at Caterham where I have just spent over £2k having it fettled for sale. Originally a road car the following are also available:-

Windscreen (brand new but never fitted).

Immobiliser (removed for trackdays/racing.

Standard De Dion ears.

Spare De Dion tube.

Tonneau cover.

Hood & hood bag.

2 spare (painted) fron and rear wings (I bought a batch and had them all sprayed at the same time).

Spare bonnet (painted).

Various spares including all cables, potentiometer, wheelnuts etc.

New "Freestyle" adjustable front roll bar.

Spare Caterham Titanium Silencer.

The car has only ever done 4 races and a number of track days. It has hardly been used since September 2002 when i went to China to work.

I am looking for the best offer over £21K.

Regards,

Jules

I too have an R500 up for grabs, not wanting to steal the thread though Jules, as I am actually looking to P/x it for a lesser 7 or 911 + cash difference (proving tricky though), might have to wait until Caterham will take aeroscreen cars again in the spring as they won't touch it at the mo, even though it only has 1500 miles on the latest Minister R500 block, is mint, and a nice R500 plate included. Pass the word onto interested 7ers that might want to trade-up and avoid the dealers' mark-up

Jules - I'm afraid the car is a little out of my price range (and I do like those colours!)

should the windscreen be available after you've completed the sale (I guess you'd want to wait until then) I might be interested in buying that from you...

ouch! !

Jules, you lucky, lucky git. *wink*

The JP1 is about the only car I would ever think about trading in my Seven for. Just a tad out of my price range at the moment ☹️ but I am having a test drive in April - just in case 😬

Ah I see, Mr Palmers latest project then, nice looking car for one of those slippery track machines, and I expect the V6 sounds nice. Nearly as quick or as the R500 then but I guess its slippery shape is why its good for 180mph even though it is a bit heavier. enjoy M.

Masha,

Harry Flatters link shows the corporate version of the JP1 i.e. 250bhp.

The version I have bought (Palmersport are only making ten for at least a year) is 315bhp with higher downforce levels and a much more sophisticated suspension layout. It is seriously quick in a straight line but add the downforce effect and HUGE brakes, the car is awesome.

Jules, I hate you even more now 😬 I know exactly the version you are looking at, but strangely JP has as yet to devote a web site to this wonderful car.

Sad that I am, I do have a copy of the brochure propped up by my screen here *wink*

Jules, yours wasn't the 'customer' car that they had on the Autosport stand was it??

The JP1 RS (road legal version) starts at £51k as compared to £48k for the track only version. However, as with all things good, this is the beginning. You can add at least £5k for "necessary" extras. Mine passed it's SVA yesterday and I'm picking it up tomorrow morning - YES !!!

Harry, yes mine was the "customer" car at the show, - the one with no body on it but with the registration "JM 53 JAG" on the back of the chassis.

Give me a flash if you see me on the roads of Kent & Sussex!

Jules 😬 *cool* 😬 *cool* 😬 *thumbup* *thumbup* *thumbup* 😬

ps - Harry, you say you "hate you even more now" - I didn't know you hated me in the first place. ☹️

what was the original topic, ah yes R500 for sale. I've got one of those too, but I'm after someone who wants to upgrade from an SLR (or 6speed1.8) + the difference in cash.

Its proving hard to find a 7er that wants to upgrade (although I suppose it is winter and my R500 is on a carbon aeroscreen), so I might just get another set of CR500s and enjoy it for another 6 months, seeing as I've just taxed it too.

happy 7ing and JP1ing

PS Jules how does the JP1 compare to the Radical or even the Ultima, have you driven all 3 by any chance (I've been offered an Ultima Mk4 on a supercharged V8, although its more of a muscle car I guess)

Hi Masha,

To answer your question, I have not driven a Radical though have been passengered in Richard ince's SR3 which was pretty awesome.

The guys at Palmersport told me (so you can believe it or not) that they had tested the SR3 against the prototype JP1 (not the corporate ones) with 3 professional drivers and in all cases the JP1 was considerably faster than the Radical (2-3 seconds per lap round the West Circuit at Bedford.

The version I have has even better brakes, 38bhp more, weighs 50 kgs's less and has 13% more downforce.

Make of that what you will !

Jules
