buroz
Could anyone tell me what spark plugs are used in the 1600 8v Vx? Only I haven't got my odcuments with me and the spark plug which I have just pulled out doesn't look right. It doesn't tie in with I would have thought. buroz
I should point out that they were new plugs when I picked the car up last year and have not needed to change them (just clean them). However, they do black up rather quickly, so was wondering whether they are running too cold. They are an odd plug too. I hadn't actually looked at the number before (or really paid much attention to them whilst cleaning them), but was thinking that they would be a BPR6ES (only Bosch equivelent) or something similar. However they cross refernece to a very odd NGK spark plug. In fact one which I have never seen.
AndreK
The 'control' plug for the Caterham Graduates 1600 Vx engine is the Bosch FR8LDC. My standard car was also fitted with those, so I would tend to stick with them or equivalent.
buroz
Yeah, that was what was in there. This X-references to an NGK BKR5xx (I forget the last two letters). However, I have chnaged to BKR6xx. These are a slightly hotter plug and I have to say that it runs a whole lot better now. I tried a couple of defferent plugs (definite advantage having parents whom own a car spares shop) and these seem the best. They don't coke up so quickly (the car has recently been rolling roaded). I dare say that I'll be better off with the other plugs when doing track days, but I shall take a set with me and have a play. I did a few test runs on Saturday and it was all fine. Then I did over 300 miles yesterday on various types of road and they ran better that the previous plugs (at least in my mind they did). The only draw back is that there were less flames coming out of the exhaust. wink.gif Cheers for the reply though Andy.
