darren f
From the FS section it seems a few of these are now appearing for sale, as the race guys have to change to the new type. Most are appearing as 'bare centres'- how much of a job is it to get them powdercoated (or is even painting a possibility?). And is coating or painting only really necessary for (all conditions) road use? darren f The Building of R300SEV is Here
Luke Beaumont
I recall hearing that mag is even more prone to corrosion than alu, so if it were me, I'd definitely be having them coated. R2D2
Most mag alloys are precipitation hardened which means they have been carefully heat treated after they have been cast. Heating them up to 250 degC to powder coat may affect their mechanical properties, (depending on the alloy). I know they will only be at temperature for a short time so any change would be small but painting would minimise any risk.
Jason Plato
Mike Barnby powder coats , so they will be ok . I would actually prefer painted myself , the powder coat can get damaged and "lift" very easily . The powder coating if applied to thick can also lead to prolems with your wheel nuts , in that you simply cant get them in the holes ! Nifty
And you can have problems getting wheel nuts in the holes with bare centres, as one of mine does!! Keep off the straight and narrow 😬
