Number Six Posted April 12, 2001 Share Posted April 12, 2001 A blatchat member (Ross) has just bought my 6x13" Dymags to go on a 2 litre BDG. Looking at the table below from the Avon web site which is the optimum choice do you think? He wants to go as wide as poss at the rear. From the list below it looks like you can get away with (215/50-13), maybe even all around, or maybe (195/50-13) at the front (this would give you a 1.2 cm approx downward tilt at the front which I believe is beneficial for handling on a Caterham anyway)... is that the best plan, 215's at the rear, 195's at the front. Or no difference, or 215's all around with an even ride height? Gary Furst Posted April 13, 2001 Share Posted April 13, 2001 If he has 6 x 13 wheels the only option is the 185/50 -13. I tried the experiment of fitting the 195s on my 6 x 13 wheels last year and there was loads of oversteer all the time. The 185/50's when fitted to 6x13 wheels have a very stiff sidewall, the 195's just aren't stretched enough. I have just bought 7x13 and 7.5x13 wheels to go with 195 fronts and 215 rears. I know some people have, I think, 205's all round on 6x13's and swear by them. I wonder if the susp. could be adjusted to counteract the oversteer? Or did you play with tyre pressures to lessen the flex and oversteer? But you are saying it's flex causing the o/s - then you have the problem of getting the tyres warm enough in sprints if you go wider? That's why I've always wondered about going as wide as the 8.0's and 8.5's on the R500 for sprinting/hillclimbs. Andy Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Good dampers and widetrack are essential to minimising the terrible tramlining ACB10's give. Would personally say don't go there without adjustable (damping) dampers. Richard Phillips Posted April 15, 2001 Share Posted April 15, 2001 I've raced with 14" 195/60 yoka 008 & 32r's, they last longer give as much grip and gearing wise are an advantage at some circuits. I don't think you can beat acb10s in the dry on the track but for allround road/track use go for 32rs. the cheapest way to go quicker for 95% of us is a little instruction Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
