Sprinting Regs

However, you'd need much more than power to get near Powder Puff in his standard 1.6Kss at Curboro'

unless your names Dave McFarlane 😬 😬

also agree with your

Those that want ultra-tight policing of regs, and all cars the same should look at a series that offers that

mr locust as you say

If it can make the numbers without the catalyst however, no one can argue.

so unless as I said earlier we are going to have all cars checked for emissions at every event this is rather an irrelevant discussion IMO *thumbup*

anyway i ssupect it is not the cat that is the issue for most, it is the ashmatic standard manifold attached to the cat that is the real performance de-grader.... *thumbdown*

Slightly O/T so apologies, but it's not worthy of it's own post. Anyway . . . I've been reading my MSA manual and was wondering if, for the purposes of L7C sprints, Caterhams were categorised as production or modified-production cars? I'm sure the answer is somewhere on Blatchat but I can't find it *mad*

Richard/Adam,

With the revision to Section L of the MSA Blue Book this year the general category for roadgoing Caterhams is now Roadgoing Specialist Production Cars.

Modified Production cars have higher requirements for several areas - rollover safety, seat belts (4 point min.) etc . Modified Production cars do not have to be road legal - but must meet L.12.

As you say our classes override this categorisation for L7CGB events.

Hope this helps.

One thing which does not appear to have been opened out into the discussion yet which may be as significant as some pretty trick engine mods - Windscreens.

OK, theyr'e practical if you drive rather than trailer to the event and you can put the hood on if it rains.

Surely there is a significant difference between windscreens and aeroscreens in terms of car performance. I think I am correct in saying that WSCC events require a full windscreen in 'roadgoing' classes.

Who's going to offer the first response on that point or did I miss something?

Haven't you got something better to do Mr Locust? *smile*

Everybody has the choice to put an aeroscreen on if they so wish including driving to an event. I won my class in a couple of events last year with a full screen so don't believe it makes a significant difference.

Next subject please *smile*

Having watched from the sidelines for a while now I will make a few comments, I think this thread should now be closed as it has turned from a constructive debate into 'Lets see what else we can find to stir trouble'.

The regs for this year are already posted and apart from the changes made to class 2/3 with 1.8 140bhp being allowed they are EXACTLY THE SAME AS LAST YEAR. We are now rakeing over old ground by discussing areoscreens, cats, alloy plenums, tyres bans etc. Any changes that are agreed (if any) are for the 2005 season and the place to start the ball rolling on these is February 28th at the SHRMF.

So far out of 32 registered contenders (as of last night) only half are attending this event. The intention from this event is to set up a Technical Working Party with representation from each class to go away and discus the merits of changes for 2005 based on key topics raised at the meeting. The intention is that any changes will be discussed and agreed by the final event of 2004 leaving everyone free to decide which class they want to contend for 2005.

The initial reason for flagging this was to reduce some of the ambigouity(?????) from the current regs but from where I stand and from most peoples views this is all they want, not drastic changes that will require a restucturing of all the classes.

An an example, the first post on this topic regarding plenums, my view is from the wording of the new regs it would be perfectly clear what is acceptable within in each class without the need to even ask the question, am I making sense or should I just leave now *confused* *confused* *confused* *confused* *confused*

The regs state standard production plenum . ....... that being the one originally fitted to the car .

I felt it was (is) a constructive thread , of the points raised I feel that clarification for novice or experts may be useful . The championship will continue to grow and become ever more competitive , and as a result people will always be seeking an advantage . Even if a VVC air meter unit doesnt make any difference on its own , in combination with a host of other tweeks it will make a measurable change to times .

The other topics concerning cats does need to be clarified before someone makes a protest to the CofC , windscreens are clear ( excuse the pun) and race aero's can be used for SV's .

I dont feel we should pre empt the outcome of any discussion on regs or the direction the championship takes no matter how radical a suggestion may first sound . I do however feel that me must accomodate all levels of competitor and budget and not allow it to develop into a "fully compromised road legal race car " championship , with everyone trailering their cars to save their tyres or beacuse the tiny battery and lack of electrics dont allow you to get stuck in a traffic jam !.

If we feel that this thread is simply ( now dont be offended by this ) ....."rakeing over old ground by discussing areoscreens, cats, alloy plenums, tyres bans" and ecu's , then what else is the meeting going to discuss , it may be old ground simply because the issues havent been resolved .

PS - I havent put my championship reg in yet as I honestly dont know what class I will be running , but I intend to be at the meeting on 28th all being well .

Mr BB sir,

Are you planning on listing the Championship entrants any time in the near future?

It would start to indicate the popularity of different classes (as well as giving the wind-up merchants a bit more to play with).
