Heater removal

Having physically removed the heater from my car (xflow) is it OK to just blank the feed from the inlet manifold (same for the outlet) or will this cause the manifold to get too hot and affect performance - any advice would be appreciated.

It will be ok to just blank off the connections without causing any problems to the engine. When I had a X/Flow, I sometimes turned the heater on just to help cool the engine a bit but if overheating was a real problem you could always upgrade to the aluminium radiator.

I had heard, a couple of years ago, that just blocking off these ports could harm the engine as coolant flow was restricted until after the thermostat opens. However, even if you have a heater, flow will be restricted if you shut it off (although in the original Escort implementation there was also an inlet manifold feed).

Might be wise to just leave a piece of pipe between the two.

Yes it is true that flow is restricted until the thermostat opens but that is the point of the thermostat; to bring the engine up to operating temperature as quickly as possible.

Don't worry about it just blank off the manifold connections, you won't damage the engine at all. After all the heater was an optional extra on the 7, and Caterham sold the cars with these ports blanked off in basic form. If there was any possibility of engine damage and, therefore, warranty claims as a result of this then you can be sure Caterham would not have supplied in this form!
