Area Representative Nick Chan Posted January 19, 2004 Area Representative Share Posted January 19, 2004 Can anyone say whether the two types of vernier pulleys for a VX 2.0 can be interchanged? I have been offered a set where the teeth are semi-circular but I have checked my engine and I have a more blocked tooth design (effectively 3 straight sides). Is it possible for me to fit the rounded tooth set and change the cam belt or is there more to it than that? DaveK
Nick There are 2 types as you say but they are not interchangable. square type is early vauxhall xe Round type is late xe low noise spec. To change you would need to change all front toothed pullies Dave
Peter T
There is ane early type and a later type ( quiet noise ). You cannot mix and match the two, but you can change from early to later by changing.... Camshft pulleys. Water pump. Idler bearings. Bottom pulley. Cam belt. Riding Donkey's, in Search of Ponies.! Area Representative Nick Chan Posted January 19, 2004 Author Area Representative Share Posted January 19, 2004 Thanks Dave & Peter for replies. Andy suspected as much! Looks like I'll have to keep looking for a compatible set. Dave - guess where there's a new set that's about to come up for sale... EFA
Wrong again Peter...... The belt path and length is different for each type. You can drill and tap an early block to enable fitment of the pullies in correct positions for the later type but not viceversa. Its all a bit pointless anyway. Most of the better pullies are the early type. I just bought some 4 spoke Piper pullies, and these are very much easier to set up than the pin type. Fat Arn Slay the K. Peter T
So is that a contradiction then Arnie 🤔 If you chose to then you can fit whatever type to any block 😬 Riding Donkey's, in Search of Ponies.!
