Bleeding Alcon Brakes

Baby Bucket

Recommended Posts

I have just fitted the Alcon Brakes (from James Whiting) and very fine they are too. However, I am having some difficultly bleeding the brakes - I am using a twin hose brake bleeding kit, but still the pedal seems a little soft.

Any advice ? Also, I am using Green Stuff pads how long to run in ?

Thanks in anticipation,

Peter

PS I'm using the standard master cylinder.

You probably need to get the air out of the master cylinder before you can pump it out of the calipers. Although the pistons in the Alcon calipers are not as big as the AP ones you still need to move more fluid with the master cylinder than on the standard calipers. This means more pedal travel.

To get air out of the master cylinder gently pump the pedal with the reservoir cap off until no more bubbles come out. It will take ages.
