Why do bra sizes go:

AA

A

B

C

D

DD

E

F

G

I can understand AA as there isn't letter a before A. And also the way the sizing works AA means the chest measurement is 1 inch less at one point compared to the other. But from there on its 0, +1, +2, +3 etc. ie DD isn't half a size up from D, its a full size up. Is it just to confuse people 🤔

Jeeves came up with this (partial)explanation:

AA - When letters are used to indicate sizes, as in shoe or brassiere sizes, it is necessary to select an appropriate range. As time passes, if the system is successful, it often occurs that the customer base begins to include individuals outside the original range. Since A typically refers to the smallest size (or ends up doing so), something must be done. Hence, AA electric batteries, AA shoes, and AA cup sizes. Batteries are available down to AAAA at least (vide 9V battery entry);

*confused*

Doesn't really explain DD or JJ sizes
