MJB
How easy is it to remove the bog standard roll bar and then refit ?. Car is a 1700 SS 89 De-dion I am thinking of having it powder coated (or at least re painted) sometime before summer season starts !. I didnt build the car and am not overly blessed in the spanner dept !. Matt
paulyb
very easy indeed the standard roll bar simply attaches on top of the seat bulkhead and inside the boot at the rear. when re-tightenning 20 - 25 lbs/ft for all the fittings
MJB
hmmm sounds feasible even for me ! I did check already for the obvious bolt points, but wanted/needed the reassurance of advice from the forum ! Thanks ! Matt
Area Representative Paul Richards Posted January 4, 2004 Area Representative Share Posted January 4, 2004 If it's a De Dion, there will probably be bolts which attach from under the wheel arch up into the bar. To access them you need to remove the shock absorbers.
MJB
Now I knew there was bound to be a catch !.....dont really fancy messing about with the suspension as only recently had it set up at redline. perhaps i'll have to live with that slightly faded patch on the bar after all !! or touch it up somehow. New7er
If it is a pin top Dedion the nuts just need to come off the top off the Shocks plus the domed cups and rubber bushes then it simply lifts off. 15 min job at worst.
MJB
well i will investigate it soon, thanks for the advice matt
paulyb
NO....the bolts above the shocks are only for the FIA bar. The standard roll bar does not have these so removal of shocks is not necessary. Matt - you need to clarify which roll bar you have. The standard one has fairly thin bars, whilst the FIA bar is thicker circa 40mm diameter and has a diagonal bar across too Edited by - paulyb on 4 Jan 2004 22:18:
MJB
definately the basic bar, thin with no diagonal. looks like i will be able to manage it then ! - Matt
