Area Representative Tin Man Posted March 25, 2001 Area Representative Share Posted March 25, 2001 I have just had the 7 out todaysmile.gif& i have noticed that the engine idles at 2,500rpm. If I blip the throttle It goes back to It`s normal idle speed. Any ideas on how to cure the problem. Thank you
DonkeyDave
throttle cable sticking? throttle butterfly sticking, return spring sticking?
CHRIS CLARK
It could also be that the jubilee clip (holding the air filter on) is overtight therefore slightly distorting the plastic housing. If this hasn't been disturbed then it might just be the MEMS ecu playing silly bu...rs!!!
Jim Ellis
Common problem with K series. WD40 on the moving bits of the throttle butterfly thingy sorted mine out. Sorry for the terminology. There was thread running recently on this with a whole pile of opetions/soultions. Try the archive.
Mike Bees
The other favourite is the idle air control valve playing up. Assuming it's a 1.6 or 1.8K, when the engine is idling happily at a sensible rpm unplug the IACV. If the problem never occurs with the IACV unplugged then chances are that's the culprit. If you run the engine from cold with the IACV unplugged then it might need a tickle of the throttle to start it, and will probably need a bit of throttle to keep it running until it's got some warmth into it.
