FIA bar and Tillett Seats

I have just finished a superlight with FIA bar and Tillett high back seats. With these seats i cannot fit the FIA bar over the passenger seat. Caterham say it is possible to get it to fit by playing around with the spacers but I have had no joy yet. Any ideas how to make FIA strut clear top of seat?

No way can you fit the strut with the seat in place!

Either (A) get a strut with a kink in it made, or (B) drill a hole in the headrest.

When I saw the tonneau I though someone was taking the p*ss to make the hole for the strut!

Jason,

I'm intrigued....

Do you have a digi pic you can email???

My passenger would be leaning about 10deg port if the bar was in!

Perhaps the R500 FIA bar is different or something??

I think I misunderstood you can fit the FIA strut with the seat in but not with a passenger in it.

I'm at Cadwell on Monday and Jules will be there so I can take a picture if you would like (I'm now using the full cage)

I have the high backed Caterham/Tillet seats and an FIA bar, and I have been able to set the seats up so that I can use the petty strut without modifying the seat or strutt.

All I did was bin the Tillet spacers and I made some slightly longer spacers for the fronts and got some longer bolts, I think about 50mm. This has the effect of tilting the seat back. I have also done the same to the drivers seat. Some people have said to me that they think the Tillet seat is to upgright so this may be a fix for that problem as well. The other benefit of doing this is that if you are a bit taller it gives you a bit more roll bar clearance with a helmet on.

I made my spaces with 15mm Ali tubing with a sightly longer piece of water hose in the middle, when you tighten it up the extra length of hose provides a cushion between the seat and the bush.

The cars done 1,000 miles like this without any problems and the driving position is fine.

Hope this helps.

Most passengers who travel in my car when the strut is fitted (read...on track days) have a hole in their head anyway, so fitting the bar is less of a problem!

I can see no way of positioning the seat so the diagnol fits in my chassis.
