masha
I've just fitted a 4into1 Competition exhaust to my X-Flow and there is a slight escape of gasses out of one of the 4into1 collector pipes (exhaust blowing back slightly). I can push it on the manifold pipe further but then the bolt holes don't line-up propperly What do people recommend I could do to create a good seal here? Thanks Matthew
CHRIS CLARK
You can use the Halfords type 'Firegum' white paste (I did) or I have heard of people using silicone.
Tony Martyr
Hermetite Exhaust Assembly paste, bought from any good automotive parts supplier is the stuff

I reply to every thread
High temperature Silicone sealant is good also. Used by Heating engineers to seal flues and the like. The stuff I've got works up to 1000 degrees c and stays flexible rather than cracking under movement like some do.
Casbar
Having been up this route, I corrected the problem as follows: Make sure flanges are flat - rub flat on a sharpening stone Get hold of either large bore gaskets from Burtons, or Roger Kings gasket Use the orange Hermatite, sealent, as its flexible. Firegum sets hard, so with vibration can break the seal. I carried out the above after several failed attempts to cure the problem. All has been well for 3 months now. I reply to every thread
I think there's some confusion here. I was sealing pipe to pipe rather than manifold to head. Silicone here is not a good idea!
Glenn Wheeler
I had a similar problem on my old crossflow several years ago, all the pastes and various sealants just kept blowing out. I cured the problem by finding an exhaust manufacturer who put the guilty pipe onto a device that opened up the width of the pipe for a nice snug fit.
