Blackbird reliability

Dear all,

 

I am seriouly thinking about buying a bike engine powered caterham, probably the blackbird. I have heard that those cars were quite fragile, specially regarding the gear box and engine.

I do leave far from UK I can not afford to bring the car back each time I have a problem, or need an engine rebuild (if needed). I also wonder about the car services, if not too complex I can handle it myself or bring it back to uk at most once a year.

Well, before actually buying one, I would like to ask the owners their opinions about the car's reliability.

Swisscat, if you search the archives on "BEC and reliability" or "blackbird and reliability" you'll probably find all you need. General consensus seems to be that if the oiling system is properly designed you'll be OK.

 

Won't you have problems registering a bike engined car in CH?

Honda bike engines are renowned as being bullet proof.

You are right Felix I will have a lot of problems registering the car in CH :-(

I have decided to look for an HPC instead.

No problems with reliability, as with all things if it is put together right the first time. I hammered mine around Phakisa Freeway (one of the GP bike race tracks)for 47 laps on Saturday and she never missed a beat. 😬
