Dyno power readings

Tony,

I sincerely hope that you do not mean that you have "been in test cells where Winston Cup race engines were being tested". I hope you mean that you went in the cell before or after testing.

I once witnessed a Formula 2 engine being tested at full power while two guys were in the cell. Unfortunately, the dyno' drive shaft let go, burst through it's guard and removed one of the operator's ear defenders before embedding itself in a steel cabinet. He escaped injury, but if he had been standing an inch further over I am quite certain that his skull would have been smashed.

I also saw a guy in a cell when there was a sudden fuel leak and consequent fire. Again, he got away with it (apart from burnt eyebrows), but personally I will never again go in a cell while running an engine under significant load.
