StewartG
That Shell Spirax G80 gearbox oil really works wonders. Smoother faster change with less synchro fight. Pity Shell don't make it anymore but you can get some old stock at participating Shell garages if you're quick. All you need is a drain plug in your gearbox or a good pair of lungs to suck it out. stevefoster
Stewart, What gearbox do you have? Is this Shell stuff mineral, semi-synth or fully synthetic?
StewartG
It's a five speed with ratios modified by BGH and rebuilt by him. The recommendation for this oil comes from Phil Stewart at Road and Race Transmissions as has been mentioned elsewhere on these pages and I can only repeat it's transformed the feel of my 'box. I think its a synthetic oil but I'm not too sure. Get some before it's too late.
stevefoster
BGH built my box and recommended the red Ford 75w90 stuff or the Red Comma stuff 75w90.
StewartG
Yes that's what he recommended to me but Spirax G80 is better
EFA
The Spirax stuff is the successor in the best oil category..... Phil reccomended the red stuff to me first time round, but the Sprirax is supposed to make the 6 speed change much better ...read desirable! KayTee
Hmm, gearbox and axle oils ... I have a 4-sp. Quaife s-c box, and an LSDed (Quaife ATB) RS2000 Ford axle. What are the oils to use in either ? Fully synthcetic, I suppose ?? Is Comma SynerG also the one to go for with my short-stroke BDA/D ? THANKS! - Karsten
