Fitting four point harnesses

Baby Bucket

Recommended Posts

I am sat here with the following

Four bolts (two long, two short)

A spacer with a step in it

A plain washer

A crinkle washer

And a four point harness .....

Anyone tell me which bolt is for the shoulder straps and what order to place the other bits.

Thanks in anticipation

Peter

You don't want to mention that you've bought a 4 point harness because now you'll get a load of threads saying "you don't want a 4 point you want a 5 or six point one"..etc..etc wink.gif

Where did you get the harness from as I'm looking at getting one too.

Confession.

I bought a five point harness from Caterham (which seem pretty good value and are FIA approved)

Given that the crutch strap comes with the same fixings, I didn't mention this in my original posting.

Junior Bucket,

My recollection is as follows:

Long bolts for the top bar, shorter ones for the side mounts.

In order under bolt head:

- plain washer

- buckle

- crinkle washer

- spacer , thin part up

- paper washer (to hold the above together whilst you fiddle with it)

If you have an FIA bar you will find you can't fit the passenger fixing due to the proximity of the diagonal....Either a shorter bolt, bolt upwards with a nyloc or use the inner mounting point. For SVA they apparently usually check that the bolts go all the way through the bar. Lots of people also junk all the spacer type fixings and simply secure the buckle in a fixed position with a plain washer under the bolt head.

To mount the crotch strap you can either use the lower side mounts (so its really a 4 point and is somewhat frowned upon) or drill out the small holes on the two old type seat mounting points at the base of the seat area.

Hope this helps.

Brian

Be careful about ditching the spacer (or any other bits come to that) as the spacer allows the belt to turn in the direction it is being pulled andthat spreads the load better. If the belt can't turn it's not as efficient.

Cheers, Davebo.

C7 CAR.

P.S. Took me ages and about 3 attempts to work out the order.
