Area Representative Crudders Posted October 15, 2003 Area Representative Share Posted October 15, 2003 Back in college days one of my housemates used to do an energy saving chicken dish, which was something like: Bring large pan of water to boil and remove from heat. Remove lid. Dump whole chicken in water. Add ’erbs, onions, vegetables, seasoning etc. Replace lid. Walk away. Come back 3 hours later. Serve and scoff. Sounds disgusting doesn’t it? But t’was yummy. No really, it was. Cruds
Lee Loves Westfields
Once you have replaced lid do you have to put it back on the heat? Otherwise could end up with a raw chicken. Yuck

Area Representative Crudders Posted October 15, 2003 Area Representative Share Posted October 15, 2003 No further heat required LLW, it just cooks v e r y s l o w l y in the residual heat. Oh, unless you meant re-heating to serve, which I left out. Good point. Oops 😳 But the actual cooking is done by the slowly cooling water, which seems impossible, but works [disclaimer mode on] Always ensure chicken is cooked through and piping hot before serving. Do not consume if you are allergic to any of the contents. May contain nuts. If you get well acquainted with your water closet after trying this recipe, don't come looking for me.
