Ooo-er

Whilst gathering info on the Bak-Rak (a sort of rear parcel carrier that attatched to tow hooks) I discovered the Bak-Rak FAQ page .... here

Such delights as ...

Q1. The mount doesn't want to fit as the tongue on the back seems too tight in the adapter.

Q2. The tongue goes in freely but the mount fouls on the ball.

😳 *wink*

No is quite freely available *wink*

Q1. The mount doesn't want to fit as the tongue on the back seems too tight in the adapter.

A1. The first time the mount is fitted it can be very tight. This is particularly so if there is dirt on the back of the ball or the front of the tow-bracket. It is best to take the mount off the rack and then tap it gently into position. Then tap it out again. Do this without any grease or oil and then blow or hose any debris out of the slot. Do it a couple of times until it is free-er then a touch of grease on the tongue should allow it to slide in and out ( 😳 you couldn't make this stuff up !)

Q2. The tongue goes in freely but the mount fouls on the ball.

A2. The mount is designed to cope with any euro-standard ball. The standard allows the ball position to vary which is why there is an adjusting screw to pick up loads to the ball head. Presuming the locking hand-wheel is removed completely the only part of the mount that can foul a euro-tow-ball is the adjusting screw. However the first test is to screw this back until the end cannot be seen inside the mount. The mount should then fit allowing the screw to be adjusted so that it just kisses the head of the ball then locked in position.

If the ball head is fouling the back of its mounting space then we can supply a 3mm spacer to put in front of the adapter to move the ball away from the flange.
