Webers vs Delorto

Is there an opinion on the differences between these two makes. I noticed a comment on another thread that a pair of new DCOE's did not come up to scratch. If there are any serious differences what are they and is the manifold fixing common to both makes.

The manifold fixing are the same.

The only thing I have heard is that the Webbers seem to produce more power and the Delortos have better fuel attimisation and produce a smoother low end.

There thats it, now I am sure there is someone, RK, who will correct me and give you amuch more informed answer (probably better spelling too smile.gif

Oh, alright then.

Personally, I've used both at various stages of my dubious career.

We used Webers back in the late 70s on the works Escort BDAs, but I then left Brian Hart and went to work for DTW where we used Dellortos on the works Chevettes.

I don't really have a preference. Any differences between them are minor and each has it's pros and cons (that's a good way of saying nothing at all isn't it? - I'm going into politics).

To my mind, the reason to choose Webers comes down to the fact that the Caterham factory linkage is designed for them and the fact that they are still in production (someone will now tell me that they are making Dellortos again). Bracketry is easily availabe to fit a throttle potentiometer as another bonus.

If I was faced with a choice between a secondhand pair of each, I would choose on condition alone.

Roger.

I believe that Del's are still on the defunct list.

I had Dellorto's on the 'Esprit' and always found them trickier to set up than Webbers. There are lots of books on tuning W's; not so D's. Everyone knows someone who's worked/is an expert (?) on W's.

Guess what I would choose ? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a very good book by Des Hamill on rebuilding & tuning both the Weber & Dellorto carbs. I found this invaluable when re-jetting the DCOEs after changing to the Zetec. It is surprising how close you can get to the optimum settings just using this book alone before final fine tuning on the rolling road.
