Yup, many nights in the S&G. Brings back some memories, that does! I wonder where Helen is now? *eek* 😬

Started at TP in, um, 87 I think it was.

The kebab shop was the one on Linthorpe Road just by the halls - still have vivid redocllection of the bloke going "chili sauce on that?" which seemed to be his catchphrase.

Ooooh ! Me went to Teeside Poly to, remember Blazers nightclub, ‘going over the boarder’, having to get the train past ICI Billinghurst belching fumes when you were still trying to deal with Newkey Brown from the night before ( I tried asking for a pint of ‘dog’ once like the locals do, but it diddent work with a southern accent).

/ enter daydreaming mode …… wonder where Azra is now

I've just recalled the Star and Garter. I can picture myself walking through the door now...

So you think you started there the same year I think I was there. So what were you up to? Industrial Design was my thing.

M 😬

Computer Studies was what I was doing at the time (did others later).

Spent far too much time playing pool in the SU and frisbee in KES. Played American Football that 1st year until I trapped a nerve in my arm - always impresses Americans when you tell them you played college football... 😬

Anybody remember Beer Stompers? *eek* 😬

And what was the name of that block of flats in a rough bit of town.. something Farm I think.

Mikey,

Home sweet home... I was at MSG too. Was always a good community spirit but a bit of a shock to visitors *eek*. It wasn't quite so grim while I was there, as we had the Ents block with bargain beer, grub and entertainment, but they were closing it down a couple of blocks at a time and they said it wouldn't be viable any more beyond the end of my year there.

Edited to say: Re the 3 "its" in the last sentence:- 1 and 2 = the campus; 3 = the Ents block... mind must have wandered back to thinking of Anne Marie...

The American Football team did really well when I was there. Came top of the league. I seem to remember they could drink for England and had a dog as a mascot. They would also shout Dog, dog, dog...repeat to fade.

Was it Grange Farm. There was a riot there one year and everyone had to be bused in and out of the place.

I also volunteered as one of the Women's Minibus drivers - good way of meeting drunk girls, vehicle to do your shopping and free entrance to the SU.

There were only 4 blocks left the year I was there, I was in Wharfdale. Best thing about MSG were the inter block water pistol fights that would go on for some time, it used to incense the care taker lady. 😳

It was Bramble Farm IIRC (I think Mount Farm is in Luton, isn't it? Where they also had a riot )

That's a reasonable recollection of Beer Stompers, Mikey *thumbup* It was eventually banned after somebody fell off a table due to vast amounts of beer, and broke their arm. *eek*

And the locals absolutely HATED students, didn't they 🤔

Geek - you are comletely right Bramble Farm was the place. I was thinking of Grange Town - on the way to Redcar.

There was a riot around Bramble Farm - which had a twin tower oppossite it. There was always burned out cars near it. The police had to escort the mini bus to Bramble Farm.

I never lived in halls - but in Myrtle Street in Boro and Redcar in my first year.

The student houses were always getting done over - one of my friends across the road was done about five times. Another friend had her house broken ionto and everything taken. A few months later she recognised her curtians in someone else's window. When the police called the family were sitting on her sofa.

Was it Pete Burn's house that was the only one standing in what must have been a terrace next to the SU. I think he refused to leave and wouldn't sell it.

I know the house the mean, but didn't recall the name.

I think there is a whole new block of halls there now - betwee the IT block and the chapel, next to the Viccy road school.

I lived all over the place, only got broken into twice, which is crazy as that would be considered good Haven't been broken into at all since moving away...
