mr toad
greg just wondering about one of these (more likely 911 2.4S) - what's the ownership experience been like? cheers jt
Greg Park
JT, This is my second 911, I had a 86 3.2 Carrera for 2 years before this and I never had a problem apart from replacing the battery. It did use a little oil but it started every time and happily covered any mileage. Depreciation was £495 over two years and servicing averaged out at £700 a year. Sold it and changed to the 993 at the start of May. The 993 has a familiar feel to the earlier 911 but is a far more advanced package, better braking, acceleration and smoother ride and as a day to day car is perfect, fast, reliable and solid. As I'm in London and have just changed job I no longer do the mileage, so I'm looking for a car for the weekend, hence changing the 993 for a 7. I'd recommend going for a post 3.2 Carrera (G50 gearbox)if you're on a budget, as they've done their depreciation, are very reliable and you'll get you're money back when you sell. It is true that you should own a 911 once in your life, I've been lucky enough to do it twice and I'll definately buy another as an everyday car and keep the 7 for the weekend. Good luck. Mike C.
Mr Toad Sorry to interject again, but I've got an enormous soft spot for the 911. The 911 2.4S was (is) a great little car, but being 30 years old, it would require much more care and on-going attention. On the right day, on the right road, you would have oodles of fun. However it really would be a 'classic' car for occasional use. A really nice rhd 2.4S would be c.£20,000. The 993 C4 is a (reasonably) practical, everyday supercar. Properly maintained it should provide the reliability and security of an Audi and the driving enjoyment and performance of a Ferrari. Everyone should try to own a 911 once in their life. However, do make sure it's a really good one, as a cheap/old/bad one will be a nightmare. Mad Manx
ruff seven
Just to second the opinion on 911s Ive worked on this product for twenty years, and I must say they must be the most reliable and economical [ in terms of maintainance ] of all supercars. The 993 with a factory fitted 3.8RS with vario is sublime.

Mark Piper
Er...2.4S versus later cars - as an ever day car no contest - buy a later car...as an object of beauty and a tactile, lithe, responsive, highly strung thoroughbred, the 2.4S wins hands down in comparison to anything this side of a 2.7RS. 'Nuff said.
Greg Park
Unfortunately not, some people don't understand the value of it, but I had it checked over by Chapelgate the Porsche dealer in Ferndown, Dorset. It has full Porsche history up until the last two. The first was from Hendon Way Motors (a performance car specialist I know in North London) the second was from an independent. As I've stated there is still a warranty until November which I can transfer and then can be extended.
Peter T
As with this type of car and many others, full dealership servicing is worth the investment in the long run. I would not be prepared to part with that amount of money knowing that it might have skimped on some exensive bills ! As for some warranties they are not worth the paper that they are written on, even brand new cars ! I am sure that your vehicle is all correct and is in good order. C7 PWT Pure Steel XE. masha
Hi - just spotted your old thread on the 911 on Blatchat and thought I'd resurrect it as I'm contemplating a 964,993 again in place of my Superlight. Can you offer any pointers, ideally seeking a 993 C2S with under £40k on the clock (in Polar Silver of course). ms81@cant.ac.uk

Quebec canada
I have been very lucky over the years. I had the chance to have a 1989 C4, 1997 C2S, 1987 Turbo Convertible, 2002 C4S and a 1996 Coupe and a Convertible 1995 C2. The 993 model is at my humble opinion the best modern Porsche, even better of my 996 C4S because with the 993 you are driving a sport car instead of just a fast car with the 996. In fact I got my C4S in 2003 and sold it 2000 miles after to get back with the 993s. They are wonderfull. And I am also the happy owner of a Caterham here in Montréal, but all stored for winter!!
